5 Things: Welcome Back To School & That Hurricane

Five things to know for Aug. 26.

  1. No evacuations have been issued yet for North Kingstown as Hurricane Irene approaches. Follow our for up-to-date information on the storm. We're also looking for anyone who wants to be a "weather watcher" during the storm. We'd love to have any submissions of observations, photos, etc. to post on Patch. Those interested can contact Samantha Turner at samantha.turner@patch.com.
  2. Team assignments for will be posted in the front of the school today at 4 p.m.
  3. We have a few "welcome back" events rocking today at area schools. is holding a welcome back picnic at 4 p.m. while hosts night for incoming sixth graders at 6:30 p.m.

  5. It will be the last day of sun until Hurricane Irene clears as high temperatures near 82 for the day. Tomorrow, showers will begin in the afternoon as we start to see the beginnings of Irene's arrival. Fog will roll in after 4 p.m. before the heavy rain begins tomorrow night with an expected accumulation of one to two inches. Sunday, Irene arrives later as the rain continues.
