Today's five essentials.

  1. It's a daunting task to keep the kids entertained throughout summer vacation. Luckily, is back to help. Registration is still open for the program's Camp 1, which has been rescheduled to run from July 18 to 22. Enjoy kayaking, a trip to Six Flags, Water Country, Block Island and more for kids born in 1997, 1998 or 1999. . To register, call 268-1542 or visit the Recreation Department's site here.
  2. Maybe your child is more of a thespian than an adventurer. For those youngsters, we suggest auditioning for the Recreation Department's rendition of Robin Hood. Applications for auditions will be accepted now through July 8 with auditions held on Monday, Aug. 8. For ages six through 16. .
  3. Can't wait until Monday to watch fireworks? If you're not afraid of bridges, we suggest a drive over the Jamestown Bridge to watch the fireworks display at Mackerel Cove Town Beach at around 8:30 p.m.
  4. So you want to class up Fourth of July with some nice wine, but have no idea what kind to get. Head over to today from 5 to 7 p.m. for a to get some "inspiration."
  5. Our streak of good weather may end today as forecasters are predicting a chance of showers with thunderstorms possible after 5 p.m. today. Other than that, expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid 70s. Tomorrow, we look to see mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid 80s. Sunday looks to give us partly sunny skies with highs in the mid 80s with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. As for Fourth of July's weather, it looks to be a perfect (albeit hot) cookout day with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s.
