5 Things: Road Races, Sprouts & More Chicks

Today's five essentials.

Happy Good Friday!

  1. In case you missed it earlier this week at the Willett Free Library and , catch the baby chicks from at the today at 10 a.m.  .
  2. Tonight's wine tasting at is canceled in observance of Easter weekend.
  3. If you bought alfalfa sprouts distributed by Jonathan's Sprouts from Stop & Shop, you may want to check the sell-by date. The Department of Health issued a recall on certain sprouts with the sell-by date of Apr. 23 which may be contaminated with salmonella. The following sprouts are part of the recall and are sold at Stop & Shop and Shaws locations: 4-ounce alfalfa sprouts, 4-ounce alfalfa with radish sprouts, 4-ounce gourmet sprouts, 4-ounce alfalfa with dill sprouts, 8-ounce alfalfa sprouts, 5-pound bulk alfalfa with waxed, cardboard cartons.
  4. Bus routes will be a bit different tomorrow due to the Jamestown Bridge 10k Road Race. Bus Route 14 (West Bay) and Route 64 (Newport/URI) will both be detoured while the North Kingsotwn Route 138/1a park and ride – the starting point for the race – will be closed from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. For the full details on these detours and changes, check our RIPTA's site here.
  5. Say farewell to that gorgeous, windy day yesterday. Today we'll awaken to areas of frost (Frost? Really, Mother Nature? Really?) with increasing clouds and highs in the lower 50s. Showers will roll into tonight as temperatures sink to 40. As for Saturday, more rain is in store, just in time for Jamestown Bridge race, and is expected to continue through Sunday. The rain may move away by Sunday morning as highs jump into the 60s. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a nice Easter Sunday so we can get out there for some egg hunts!
