5 Things: Planning Meeting, Politics & Facebook

Five things to know for July 30.

1.  The North Kingstown Town Council meets tonight, kicking things off with a joint meeting with the planning commission. Both bodies will discuss water and planning for future developments, town's comprehensive plan and a scope of work for a visioning process for the Route 2 and 102 intersection. Meeting starts at 6 p.m. at .

2.  Head over to Wickford tomorrow night for another installment of the . Tomorrow night, Sh Bop starts up at 7 p.m. Please bring seating.

3.  My friend Lauren Costa, editor of Coventry Patch, has more than 1,000 fans on Coventry Patch's Facebook page. I find it unacceptable that North Kingstown only has 740. If you haven't already, "like" North Kingstown Patch's Facebook page. If you don't, Coventry Patch wins.

4.  Are you a political candidate in the upcoming election? North Kingstown Patch is doing profiles of every candidate running for public office in NK. Contact Editor Samantha Turner at samantha.turner@patch.com to get started.

5.  Today: mostly sunny with highs near 77. Tonight: mostly cloudy with lows around 62. Tomorrow: a slight chance of showers with otherwise party sunny skies and highs near 79.

Note: an earlier version of this article incorrectly posted that Abbey Rhode was performing tomorrow night for the summer concert series. Sh Bop will actually be playing tomorrow night. Sorry for the confusion (and thanks to a reader who pointed it out!)

Is that a challenge Sam Turner?

Oh, this is all-out war, Costa. All. Out. War. :-)

Regarding the planning meeting, this is where it all happens folks. These are the people who make their friends rich with rule-making. Think "Wind Turbine". Jim McGwin made a great contribution a few years back regarding the ground water resource issue. He discovered that the NKGOP insiders (Harriet Powell, Carol Hueston, and that dope Barry Martasian ) had created the "Hunt River Watershed Council" which was trying to take advantage of state statute to enable - surprise surprise - a developer in the north end of town. McGwin was able to crush that little scam in its infancy (BRAVO). But WATCH THE PLANNING DEPT and no matter how many parades Liz Dolan puts on, she is part of this cabal. When you hear "water resources" WATCH CAREFULLY what they do. It's "Wind Turbine-gate" times TEN. - PUBLIC ALERT: WATCH THE NK PLANNING COMMISSION CLOSELY!

It was very interesting to watch the thinly veiled rush to jam this NKGOP agenda done the throats of the people of NK at the joint meeting. Previously this same TC had stated that they thought the issues of the rt2/102 controversy would continue on to the new TC after the Nov. elections. Seems that the picture changed at the joint meeting. Councilman Stamm actually blurted out a threat that the TC would implement action on its own if speedy action was not brought forth by the stakeholders group. He was adamant that this vital issue be completed before this TC leaves office. Could the introduction of new faces/new ideas (in NOV) be a problem for the NKGOP. My guess is they have heard the street rumblings and know that they are all on the way out the door. Good riddance! Monday nights joint meeting and packing (with GOP insiders) of the stakeholders group is a perfect example of why NK needs to clean house! This is a vital issue with far reaching consequences beyond just the rt2/102 area. It is a town wide issue. The impact on town services, taxes and resources will be shared by everyone in NK.

Exactly. But the NKDEMS have to resonate with key issues of the NKgop track record, like the Wind Turbine and the attempt to ram through other projects. Its a few years back but people should still remember the NKGOP attempt to buy the mined-out gravel pit for MILLIONS in open bond monies, the NKTO got that out in the open and it didnt pass. Anybody who thinks they should vote 'republican' down to the local level is a FOOL asking for more of the same. The nkdems are a disaster politically and the party is a joke but when nkdem candidates like Ed Cooney, Larry Ceresi, Lynda, Dick Welch, Sue Henseler and others get in office, NK goes in a better direction, Halley and his admin were replaced, and better policies went in. It was the NKDEMS who gave us web-based online town meeting viewing. They are better in NK. (BTW I will prob be voting for Romney in November due to the economy knowledge he has). Locally, it will be DEMS in NK because of the track record of these so called republicans. - FMR NKGOP Chairperson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLK2mhJQ7Zo - NKGOP SCHOOL COMMITTEEWOMAN Voted to pay off halley!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FktNj3C0Vc - Current NKGOP Officer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt2Un67PlTs - And dont forget the 400ft Wind Turbine they approved for a 'friend's' back yard! - ALL IS THE NKGOP TRACK RECORD! Time for a change.

No conflict here! Members of this T/C should recruse themselves: Liz Dolan is an abbutter, Heuston and Bestwick (gave his back?) took money from the developer, the developer is running for T/C as an endorsed Republican with Dolan and Heuston, Stamm is leaving town and Chuck should stay away from this vote. This is extremely transparent and open isn't it! Stamm wants to hurray up and get this done before the new T/C takes over, why what is the hurray? R E market is in the dumps, who would finance this project now? Take some time, get some new faces on the T/C that don't have any apparent conflicts. Thank you Jim Grundy for pointing out that all planning affects the entire town and as such it is not just a local issue. BTW it took the T/C almost 2 hours to decide the makeup of the committee, it was like watching grass grow in July. If the committee acts as fast as the T/C Charlie, it will be years before it comes to the T/C!

Web-based meetings, openness for the town. Replaced Halley and that bad admin with much better. Whistleblower Law put on books in NK, several years of school budget austerity, better school financial policies, Station Five reopened in Slocum, reducing EMT/Fire responses from 20 mins to 5mins. After forming a 21 member stakeholder group, RESTORED K-5 SCHOOLS. Good things happen when we vote in the (LOCAL NK) DEMS
