5 Things: Pirates, Hot Air Balloons & Sunny Skies

Five things to know for July 22.

  1. If you see pirates wandering around this weekend, there's no need to fret. Join the castle for this weekend's event, , tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. for an afternoon filled with music from groups specializing in ancient sea shanties. Returning will be The Free Men of the Sea, a pirate reenactment group. The event will be emceed by local historian Tim Cranston, playing the role of Rhode Island Colonial Governor Samuel Cranston.
  2. Grab the family and head down to the 33rd Annual South County Hot Air Balloon Festival this weekend. .
  3. If you live in the north end of town and have been experiencing lately, we may know why. From now until about mid August, the town's water department is cleaning and repairing the Forge Road Standpipe. If you have any questions regarding the project, contact the water department at 268-1521.
  4. Looking to whip up a delicious summer dish? Head over to tomorrow morning from 9 a.m. to noon for the Coastal Growers' Market for some amazing ingredients.
  5. The heat won't be letting up any time soon. Today, highs will venture up to nearly 100. (An excessive heat watch is still in effect today.) Tomorrow will be mostly sunny with highs near 94. Sunday, temperatures will dip a bit into the mid 80s with sunny skies.
