(UPDATED) 5 Things: Philharmonic, Sports Camps & That Big Art Festival

Today's five essentials.

  1. We're not sure if you heard, but there's . (With more than 200 artists and tens of thousands of attendees expected, we feel we're not editorializing when we call it big.) In conjunction with the inevitable beach traffic, the driving situation in the Wickford area is going to be pretty ugly. Plan accordingly.
  2. Please note the date of this event has been moved to Saturday at 7:30 p.m. due to weather. Enjoy some music by the water this weekend andead down to the at Narragansett Beach starting at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow night. The Rhode Island Philharmonic will be performing, so bring the blankets and beach chairs! (P.S. Stop by the Patch booth to say hi. We promise we don't bite.)
  3. You just completed week two of summer vacation and your youngsters' neverending energy is eating away at your sanity. Luckily, we have an easy remedy for your problem. Enroll the kids in the North Kingstown Sports Camps, running from July 11 to mid August. From volleyball to field hockey to basketball to baseball to football, there's a camp for practically everyone. Check out the list here and sign up today!
  4. So maybe your kid's not much of an athlete. Bring them over to the today at 11 a.m. for the Kids Reading Across Rhode Island Book Club today. Children ages 8 to 12 will read and discuss "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon" by Grace Lin. .
  5. Are we in store for another gorgeous weekend here in Rhode Island? Just nearly, it seems. Today we'll have a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the late morning/early afternoon. Tomorrow the showers may continue as we have a 20 percent chance of rain in the morning before noon, then partly sunny skies with a high near 80. Sunday looks to be the nicest day this weekend with sunny skies and highs in the 80s.
