5 Things: Hurricane Irene, Orientation & Middle School Teams

Five things to know for Aug. 25.

  1. Hurricane Irene is on her way and looks to spell trouble for New England. Forecasters say that the current Category 3 storm could make landfall anywhere from North Carolina to New York this weekend. Officials in Rhode Island are expecting the greatest impacts to be on Sunday, however. Check back later for North Kingstown Patch's hurricane guide.
  2. and are both holding their kindergarten orientations today. Stony Lane's will kick off at 9 a.m. while Hamilton is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. (Stony Lane's new student orientation begins at 10:30 a.m., as well.)
  3. What team will you be on? D or R? A or G? O or N? Find out tomorrow as for will be posted at 4 p.m. in the front window of the school.
  4. Congratulations to North Kingstown's IT Director Jason Albuquerque, who was recently recognized as a Certified Government Chief Information Officer by Rutgers University and the Public Technology Institute. Only 500 people in the country have obtained this recognition.
  5. Say adios to this week's lovely weather as Hurricane Irene closes in on us. Today will be mostly sunny with a 40 percent chance of showers in the afternoon as highs stay in the lower 80s. Tomorrow will be partly sunny with a 50 percentchance of showers and patchy fog with highs in the 80s.
