5 Things: Friday The 13th, Karaoke & More

The five "essentials" for this weekend.

  1. All you friggatriskaidekaphobics beware. (And yes, that is a word. Google it.) Today is the dreaded Friday the 13th – the only Friday the 13th we'll have this year. For those of you who look to live on the edge, you can always smash one of your mirrors, let a parade of black cats trot in your path and walk under a series of ladders.
  2. For those who signed up for the , here's a friendly reminder that it kicks off this weekend. Head over to on Sunday at 9 a.m. for either a four- or one-mile run/walk complete with live entertainment and snacks courtesy of Great Harvest and Subway, as well as raffles and more.
  3. Help support the North Kingstown Drama's Camp Rock program - going on June 25 and 26 – by heading over to Sunday evening from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with part of the foods sales and tips going straight to the program.
  4. We always end up regretting announcing a karaoke event, but we're going to do it anyway. The North Kingstown Players are hosting a karaoke night down at tomorrow night from 7 to 10 p.m. to benefit their fall show. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids or $25 maximum charge for a family.
  5. We have some goods news, and we have some bad news. Here's the good: it's probably not going to rain today. The bad news: it's probably going to rain every day from the next week. Today we'll have highs in the lower 60s with mostly cloudy skies. Tomorrow we'll have a slight chance of showers after 3 p.m. with fog early morning as high temperatures linger in the uppers 50s. Sunday high temperatures will be pretty much the same, but with a good chance of showers. Looking ahead, most of next week will be rainy with high temperatures fluctuating from the 50s to 60s.
