5 Things: Candidate Forums, Davisville El & Gothic Tales

Five things to know for Oct. 23.

1.  The North Kingstown School Committee meets tonight at 7 p.m. at the high school. On the agenda, Dr. Auger will present a proposal for the use of Davisville Elementary School and more. Check the full agenda here.

2.  Listen to gothic tales by candlelight tonight at the North Kingstown Free Library. Starts at 6:30 p.m. Hear local stories of curses, death and immortality. Learn more about the event (including how to reserve your tickets) here.

3.  The North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce and The NorthEast Independent will kick off their candidate forums tomorrow and Thursday night. Tomorrow night at 7 p.m., all 14 candidates for Town Council will hit the stage at 7 p.m. On Thursday, the 4 candidates for School Committee will go on, followed by the House and Senate candidates at 8 p.m. Members of the public may submit questions for the candidates by emailing mpughe@northkingstown.com. All forums will be held in the NKHS auditorium.

4.  To celebrate the 81st anniversary of the acquisition of Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum, the museum is asking the public to help learn the names of the original 1931 attendees of the museum's opening. The attendees are recorded on a small piece of 8mm film. Come to the NK Free Library Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the event – Saving the Birthplace. Tim Cranston will be on hand to offer some history and photos of the site throughout the years will also be on display.

5.  Today: a slight chance of showers after 1 p.m. with otherwise mostly sunny skies and highs near 66. Tonight: a chance of showers with cloudy skies and lows around 49. Tomorrow: a slight chance of showers with cloudy skies and highs near 62.
