Eight NK Soccer Players In National Championship Tournament

Eight North Kingstown youth soccer players to compete at prestigious national soccer tournament at URI June 28 to July 2.


The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series is coming to Kingston, Rhode Island, June 27 to July 2. The Championship is part of the country's most prestigious national youth soccer tournament. Eight players from North Kingstown will be competing in the Regional Tournament as members of the Bruno United Soccer Club. These players include:Brinley Chabot, Elsa Kincaid, Hannah Kuczmarski and Jessica Moniz in the U13 Girls Division. Also competing will be Austin Lind, Jared Covell and Jake Covell in the U14 Boys Division. NK High Senior Soccer standout, Bridget Skerry, will represent RI as a member of the Bruno U18 Girls team.

The Championships are a competition of the US Youth Soccer State Champions from 15 Eastern states, including the recently crowned Rhode Island teams. Following individual state tournaments, the Regional Championships are the second step of the US Youth Soccer National series. Winners of the tournament advance to the National Championships in Overland Park, Kansas later this summer.

The tournament will attract more than 260 boys and girls teams, ages Under-12 through Under-19 from the 15 Eastern US Region 1 Associations (Conn., Del., Eastern N.Y., Eastern Pa., Maine, Md., Mass., N.H., N.J., Western N.Y., R.I., Vt., Va. and W.Va.).

With more than 17,000 youth soccer players in Rhode Island, Bruno United Soccer Club attracts and trains the best players in the area. The club's director, John Tomlinson of Portsmouth, is confident the Bruno teams will be successful at the tournament.

"This is what we work for all year. Our players are well prepared and really excited about facing off against some great teams."
