NK Rec Tennis Summer Camps

Find out about this year's NK Rec Tennis Camps and its director!

My name is Cristelle Fox and I am the new North Kingstown Recreation Tennis Director.  I am really excited to take on this role as I am fairly new to the area* and would like to meet as many tennis interested NK families as possible.

What's so great about this year's camp is that we have changed the format, making it a week-long camp rather than a once/twice weekly one hour or so clinic. In doing so I hope to really immerse the kids in the game of tennis and have them love it as much as I do.

I have split each camp into two categories: for anyone aged 10 and under we will be following the USTA's new format called Quickstart. A fantastic, proportionally-sized version for little guys; the balls are foam and the rackets and court are smaller (imagine Little League baseball but tennis). All kids over the age of 10 will be split into groups according to their ability and will play on the full size court.

From Monday to Thursday during each camp week we will concentrate on learning the correct technique, footwork, how to keep score and of course trying to put all that learning into fun and creative games.  Each Friday will be a Fun Friday; there will be no instruction - just balls, courts and plenty of tennis.

For more information and how to sign up please visit the North Kingstown Recreation website page:  www.northkingstown.org/summer-programs-2013  and look for the Summer Recreation Tennis Camps link.

*   I grew up in London and played on the women's WTA Tour for a year before coming to the states to play college tennis. At Northwestern University I was ranked number one in singles and doubles in division I tennis and I was fortunate enough to finish my college career by winning the 2006 NCAA doubles tournament.  From there I taught the Yale Women's tennis team for a year before working at Pond View Racquet Club in Westerly and at Mystic Indoor Tennis in Mysitc, Connecticut. I then moved to North Kingstown in 2010.
