Wickford Lumber Abruptly Closes

After more than 40 years in business, Wickford Lumber is closed.

 

Monday was the last day of business for longtime business Wickford Lumber as it abruptly closed its doors. According to the NorthEast Independent, the store closed down at 5:30 p.m. Monday without notice. (Read the Independent's full story here.

The Secretary of State's corporate database lists the business, located at 434 Tower Hill Road, at $1.05 million. Wickford Lumber Co. has owned the property since 1976, according to the database.

The Wickford Lumber site has played "an important role in North Kingstown's history," according to the business' website. The site was originally a depot stop for the Newport/Wickford railroad line where passengers travelling via the Seaview line stopped. In the 1940s, the property became a primary lumberyard for the area.
