Seabee Museum to Host Recruitment Day

With Veterans Day approaching, a local museum is set to hold a recruitment day this weekend.

As New Englanders and the nation prepare to celebrate Veterans Day, the Seabee Museum and Memorial Park has announced it will hold a New England Regional Recruitment Day on Saturday, November 5th, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will be an important opportunity for individuals to learn more about the Seabees history and find out how they can help keep the Seabees history alive for future generations.

“There is no better time of year than now to learn about the individuals who served in the Seabees," said Mr. Dick Caito, executive director of the Seabee Museum and Memorial Park. "Their service to our country should not be forgotten, and their story is an important part of America’s efforts to protect our freedom at home and abroad.”

The New England Regional Recruitment Day will also offer an opportunity for people and students with an interest in art, carpentry, landscaping, accounting, history, and other interests to learn how they can volunteer and help the organization continue its work. In many cases, the time volunteered can qualify for academic credit or certification requirements that the volunteer is working towards.

The Seabee Museum and Memorial Park, which is located at the Quonset Business Park in Davisville was created to honor the more than 325,000 men who served with the Seabees in World War II. The Seabees, who were fighting and building in more than 400 locations before the war's end, knew more than 60 skilled trades and nearly 8,000 Civil Engineer Corps officers served with them. The Davisville location was utilized by the Seabee’s from its inception in 1942, until 1994. Since its closure, the park and museum has been an ideal place for community and local history to thrive in Rhode Island.
