North Kingstown To Host Next Eco-Depot

North Kingstowners will be able to dispose of household hazardous waste for free on Sept. 10.

North Kingstown will host the next Eco-Depot on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the town's , 2050 Davisville Rd.

From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents can bring poisons, oil paints, gas tanks and mercury products to the Eco-Depot – a free service provided by the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation.

Nearly every home has some amount of household hazardous waste (HHW) stored in sheds, garages and basements. (Any product that is flammable, combustible, explosive, toxic, corrosive, poisonous and hazardous to health qualifies as HHW.) These harmful substances and products – such as oil-based paint, fluorescent light bulbs, lawn chemicals, pesticides, antifreeze, pool chemicals, turpentine, muriatic acide, propane gas tanks and fire extinguishers – are banned from landfill disposal becuase they can pollute the environment if not properly discarded.

The HHW that RIRRC collects at these Eco-Depots (held around the state) are transported to facilities that specialize in their disposal.

To avoid waiting in lines, RIRRC requests that those interested in disposing of their HHW make an appointment by calling them at 401-942-1430 ext. 241.
