New NK Restaurant has Wicked Menu Idea

Menu contest asks for future customers to suggest a dish, winner gets it on the menu.

Ever sit down at a restaurant, look at a menu, and come to the conclusion that there should be a different, or better dish on the menu?

Now's your chance.

At Wicked Fish Restaurant, a new restaurant that will be coming to North Kingstown this spring, the owners are fishing for menu ideas from future customers.

Rhode Island native and Chef Garret Roberts, along with his business partner, John Keane, of Nantucket, are issuing a "casting call" (pun intended) to find great seafood dishes to put on their menu.

If your suggestion makes it on the menu, you'll get the unique honor of having a dish in your name.

The casting call will run from March 15 - April 15, 2014. Nominators can submit their dish ideas and recipes via the Wicked Fish Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Wicked-Fish/687609991272574, or email wickedfishri@yahoo.com with the subject line: “Menu Competition”. The winning dish will be chosen by Roberts and Keane, and featured on the restaurant’s opening menu.

The new restaurant will be at the corner of Route 2 and Ten Rod Road in North Kingstown, at the site of the former Old Corner Tavern.

The modern American menu will feature locally sourced and organic ingredients. And as its name suggests, Wicked Fish will have fresh seafood in addition to steaks and "upmarket epicurean fare."

Kean currently owns and operates three restaurants in Nantucket: Quepegs, Town and Kitty and Murtagh's.

He said he was drawn to South County because of its proximity to the ocean and what he sees as a "huge marketplace opportunity."

“North Kingstown and the surrounding area is a rich, vibrant, thriving community. People have flocked to this area because of its picturesque beauty, accessible waterfront, and its amazing coastline. It’s perhaps the most enviable place to live in New England,” Keane said.

Roberts, who lives in NK, said the area "is on the vanguard of an exciting economic trend and we're thrilled to be a part of it all."

In addition to Wicked Fish, Roberts and Keane are building an authentic Irish pub and sports bar, Kitty Murtagh’s next to the main restaurant. Modeled after the Kitty Murtagh’s in Nantucket, the Rhode Island Kitty Murtagh’s will offer real Irish-style pub grub like Potato cheddar soup, curry chips (house made chips with madras curry sauce), Irish nachos, tuna tartar, Shepherd’s pie, Guinness battered fish and chips, Hearty beef stew, bangers and mash, pork schnitzel, kitty's triple tenderloin (beef medallions with red wine demi glaze, Jameson sauce and roasted garlic butter), and many menu items for kids, as well as an impressive array of beer, wine and liquor. Kitty’s will also specialize in Sunday brunch, presenting an array of fare from a traditional Irish “Fry-Up”, as well as standards like eggs Benedict and bloody Marys.
