Is That A Real Sears On Post Road? Yes It Is

The new Sears Hometown Store next to TJ Maxx is a smaller, more neighborly version of the big Sears stores.

Your eyes aren't playing tricks on you – that's a Sears store in the plaza next to TJ Maxx at 6655 Post Rd. That's happy news for a stretch of road that's got a few too many vacant buildings.

And, it could be happy news for you, too, when your washer gives out and you need a replacement.

With the departure of Lowe's from Quonset two years ago, the northern part of town has been without a place to buy large appliances. Owner Tom Iacobucci is looking for his Sears Hometown Store to fill that void.

The store is easy to navigate and has all that classic Sears merchandise you might expect: dishwashers, washers, dryers, refrigerators, mattresses, power tools, snow blowers, mowers, generators, and so on. Only not as many as you'd find at the mall-type Sears store.

That's where another powerful tool comes into play: the computer. Anything a customer wants, "if Sear’s has it, we can get it” said District Manager Ron Quinn.

That’s the point behind Sears Hometown, Iacobucci said. He owns the lease and fixtures, Sears owns the merchandise, he explained, making for a more neighborly feel.

Many of the items for sale are plugged in and ready to demo, from the treadmill to the vacuum. The mowers, too, can be taken outside and tested.

"We want to make sure you’re satisfied with what you get," Iacobucci said.

Iacobucci spent the last several years working as a contractor. With his children grown and gone, he decided to find something that was both easier on his body and played to his strengths.

“I’ve always been a handy guy,” he said. “I used to work in hardware when I was a kid. It kind of comes natural to me."

The store opened Jan. 22. A grand opening is planned for late March.
