Moonlight Magic at the Gilbert Stuart Museum

Moonlight Magic Fundraiser at the Museum

In 1931 a group of concerned citizen purchased the home where Gilbert Stuart was born and created the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum. That was 80 years ago.  On August 12, the Museum, located at 815 Gilbert Stuart Road, will celebrate its 80th anniversary with its yearly gala, Moonlight Magic, at the Museum and its grounds. The gala is also a vital fund-raiser to help offset the cost of the restoration of its fish-ladder dam, protecting an access for the famous Rhode Island buckies to spawn at Carr Pond, and which is monitored year-to-year by the RI Department of Environmental Management.

Moonlight Magic will be held on August 12 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum; artist David Schock has kindly agreed to act as Honorary Chair of the event and his art works will be on display and for sale at the gala.  The gala will also feature lively music by the Elderly Brothers, a delicious repast of wine, light supper and desserts, an innovative silent auction and a raffle, as well as a freshly painted and photograph-filled Artist-in-Residence art sale.

The Museum Board hopes that many Rhode Islanders will celebrate the Museum’s 80th anniversary with them on the banks of the Museum’s millpond to help support the Museum’s crucial fundraising efforts and to enjoy the ‘dam’ party!
