Fish on the Run/Spring Fair

            This event is being held to help raise funds for vital repairs to the Museum’s fish ladder dam.

May 1st will mark the formal opening of the 2011 season of the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum with an event that promises to include something for all age groups and interests   Fish on the Run/Spring Fair will include the following exhibits, events and displays: 

  • Fish printing, make your own frameable print.  Fish provided.
  • Earth Day for Buckies, a presentation by DEM, plus underwater camera views of the fish coming upstream on the Museum’s fish ladder..
  • Tim Cranston signing copies of his new book, “Walking Olde Wickford: the history of Wickford one house at a time.”  Copies will be available for sale.
  • Robin Hollow Farm, the opportunity to inhale (and purchase) the first flowers of the season.
  • Narrow River Land Trust exhibit: a first look at the acquisition of the Nokewa Girl Scout Camp property; to be open to the public, purchased by DEM, NRPA and others.
  • Rhode Warm exhibit: new heritage blankets woven from the wool of Rhode Island raised sheep
  • Collector’s wooden bowls and other wooden items by Sam Clidence.
  • Beautiful 18th century furniture reproductions by Ray and Sam Clidence.
  • Whimsical bowls, burls and wooden concoctions by Don “the barn” Ledvardis.
  • Watch and feel the turning of the earth-shaking Grist Mill waterwheel grinding jonny cake meal.
  • Spinning and weaving demo by the RI Spinners Guild.

Also featured will be made-on-site jonny cakes by Bob and Diane Smith, owners of Carpenters Grist Mill, self-conducted tours of the Museum’s nature trail, open house at the Birthplace and more.
