On the verge of lapsing into a panic attack trying to determine how to entertain your children during Christmas vacation? Take a chill pill, because we've got you covered.
From free movie nights to crafts to CrossFit, we've come up with a few (local) ideas of things to do with the kids while they're out of school this week.
Movie Night at the Library
Thurs. Dec. 27 at 1 p.m. | North Kingstown Free Library
Head down to the North Kingstown Free Library for a free movie. Showing this week is “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days,” based on the popular book series. Learn more here. Please register by calling 401-294-3306 ext. 5.
Putting the SK in Skate
Fri., Dec. 28 from 2 to 3:50 p.m. | Boss Ice Arena
Strap on the skates and head down to Boss Ice Arena at the University of Rhode Island for a free family skate this Friday. Can’t make it that day? Public skates will be happening all week. Visit Boss Arena’s website for times tickets and pricing.
Fri., Dec. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | KidZone Indoor Playground
Don’t think you can make it through the whole week with the kids? Drop them off at KidZone on Ten Rod Road for an afternoon, along with their lunch. For $40 ($60 for siblings), your kids will make a winter-themed craft and cooking creation while you sit at home and rest or go out and enjoy a kid-free afternoon. Learn more here. If you’re interested, please remember to RSVP in advance.
Friday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. | Davisville Free Library
Have crafty kids? Head over to Davisville Free Library for its craft hour where kids 7 and older will be decorating fleece scarves. They’ll learn some simple embroidery techniques and can even embroidery their name into their creation. All materials are included in this free event. Call the library at 401-884-5524 to sign up.
CrossFit for Kids
Wed., Dec. 26 and Fri., Dec. 28 from 10:30 a.m. to noon | CrossFit South Kingstown
CrossFit isn’t just for adults. Bring the kids down to SK for a fun-filled, action-packed time with CrossFit trainers where they’ll learn the nine functional movements of CrossFit. Oh, and they’ll get to climb ropes, flip tires and other awesome stuff. This event’s open to kids ages 6 to 15. Admission is $30 for both days and $20 for one day.
