UPDATE: Thousands Lose Power in NK, EG

Thousands of National Grid electricity customers in North Kingstown and East Greenwich lost power in four separate outages Friday morning.

As of 11:40 a.m., 1,026 customers in East Greenwich are without power and 2,599 customers in North Kingstown are in the dark, according to National Grid's power outage map.

The outages are affecting a portion of East Greenwich along Post Road between Division Street and Frenchtown Road. In North Kingstown, customers are affected along Ten Rod Road, Oak Hill Road, Route 102 and into Allentown.

According to National Grid spokesperson David Graves, at about 11:15 a.m. on Friday a 35,000-volt power line came down in East Greenwich near Holland Road, landing on top of a 12,000-volt power line.

"The end result was that we lost power to two substations in North Kingstown and East Greenwich," said Graves.

Crews are now working to restore power to the more than 5,000 effected customers. Power should be completely restored by this afternoon.
