NK Native Completes Boston Marathon

Denhoff said this was her third Boston Marathon. She finished with a time of 7:06:40.

Last year, North Kingstown native Erica Denhoff was stopped at the 23rd mile during the Boston Marathon.

This year, her parents stood at the same spot they did the year before at mile 24 and gave her a big hug when she ran by.

And her parents weren't the only ones cheering her on towards the finish line.

Denhoff, 27, a graduate of North Kingstown High School, runs to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and "This year, the crowds were amazing," she said.

"When I finished the marathon around 6 pm, the crowds along Boylston were still 3 or 4 people deep," she said. "It was great to cross the finish line and share that moment with so many spectators."

It wasn't that long ago that Denhoff was throwing the hammer on the track and field team here in North Kingstown.
