Supreme Court Denies Firefighter Motion
The Town of North Kingstown versus the North Kingstown Fire Fighters was dealt with in two courts Thursday, when the state Supreme Court denied an emergency motion by the NK fire fighters and Superior Court Judge Stern set up a "briefing schedule" on other, connected issues. The fundamental issue in the cases in both courts was the town's unilateral implementation of a 24-hour shift schedule and decrease in pay for the fire fighters.
While the dogs got a lot of attention at the dedication Monday of the North Kingstown's own dog park, it was the memory of a 12-year-old girl who adored animals that was first and foremost in people's minds.

Health Department Orders NK Dentist To Stop Doing Root Canals
The Rhode Island Department of Health has ordered dentist Paul Boscia to immediately stop performing root canals. Boscia practices dentistry from an office at 320 Phillips Street in North Kingstown.
NK Police Log: Birthday Designated Driver Arrested on DUI
Susan Marie Gardner, 38, of 973 Smithfield Ave. in Lincoln was arrested Sept. 29 at 2:12 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence and cited for refusing a breath test.
Town Hires New Finance Director
Town Manager Mike Embury announced the hiring of a new finance director, Ted Przybyla, who is currently the finance director for the Town of Coventry. He will begin Oct. 21.
