High Bacteria Counts Close NK Town Beach

The state Department of Health closed the beach to swimming Friday due to high bacteria counts.

If you're planning on swimming at North Kingstown Town Beach this weekend — you might want to reconsider.

The state Department of Health closed the beach to swimming Friday due to high bacteria counts.

The water quality will be monitored and the health department said it will reopen the area as soon as its safe for swimming.

Up-to-date information about beach closures is kept on the health department's Web site HERE. This most recent closure was not listed at the time of this posting.

Note: the beach is still open and accessible to the public as the closure only affects swimming.

Not Again! When are we going to stop flushing our toilets into the bay. Bad enough we can't swim. You may want to reconsider the quahogs as well.

jim, sometimes it can be animal feces, bird droppings etc. these counts can often be natural. I wish they would tell us the details though. maybe shieldrop can ask the source next time?

maybe they should move the town council meetings further inland….
