Hidden Gems: Quonset is More Than a Business Park

Most locals associate Quonset with the , and other industrial businesses. Yes, it is technically a business park … but did you know Quonset hosts four beaches, a bike path and a e?

For those not wanting to venture down to the beaches in Narragansett and South Kingstown, North Kingstown has a few gems right in our own backyard.

A few years back, the Quonset Development Corporation put some money into beautifying parts of the park, including fixing up the four beaches and creating a bike path.

Blue Beach offers a beautiful view of the West Passage and Wickford’s waterfront. The parking lot has port-a-pottys and even a bike rack. How to get there: Turn right onto Circuit Drive and follow the signs.

Compass Rose Beach is right near Electric Boat, but offers some of the most stunning views of the bay from Quonset. It’s a favorite among Quonset workers for lunch breaks and offers ample parking and benches. How to get there: The entrance is right across from Eccleston Avenue on Roger Williams Way.

Spink’s Neck Beach is located right near the Port of Davisville, so plan to see some pretty large boats passing by. How to get there: Turn left onto Tidal Drive at the end of Davisville Road at the guard shack for the port. Bear right to get to the beach.

Calf Pasture Point Beach is accessible to cyclists from the Davisville Bike Patch, to paddlers who cross the Allen Harbor channel and to pedestrians walking in from the Mount View neighborhood. There’s plenty of wildlife in the area, so be prepared! It’s a pristine beach and is often empty. How to get there: Use the path on Petee Avenue in the Mount View neighborhood (note: parking is only for Mount View residents at the lot) or park at the lot for the bike path and walk down.

Davisville Bike Path is a 2.5-mile paved path, suitable for walkers, joggers and cyclists. Catch remarkable views of the bay, marshes and other wildlife scenes. Either park at The Gateway entrance (near Newcomb Road) at the far left side of the plaza or at the other end along Marine Road (off of Davisville Road.)
