It was anything but quiet in the library today as a handful of chicks and one hen from hopped in to the .

Beth Weibust of Casey Farm and her feathered comrades treated a large crowd at the small library to bird-laden lecture and presentation, complete with some up close and personal time with the chicks themselves.

The young crowd's attention may have been distracted at times as Weibust showed off different bird eggs and discussed the difference between chickens raised in farms and those raised in factories, but as soon as that bin filled with little chicks came out in front of the kids she surely had a captive audience.

According to Weibust, the chicks ranged from four to ten days old. Everyone had the opportunity to hold a baby chick...just as long as they could handle a little poop on their hands if one of the chicks decided to make a pit stop. The group even got to meet a Dominique hen – one of the nearly 125 chickens from Casey Farm.

Today's event was part of a week-long tour by Casey Farm representatives throughout the state to teach communities about chickens, turkeys and other feathered fowl.
