Casey Farm Keeps It Local And Organic

Not only does Casey Farm offer a Community Supported Agriculture program every summer, but they have a farmers market to the public ever Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Casey Farm is keeping it local and organic by offering a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program to the community, of which around 170 members are apart of. Members pay $575 to be apart of the program for the 21 weeks that it runs and then come on either Tuesdays or Friday afternoons to pick up their vegetable share for that week. Besides the membership fee, members can either pay an extra $75 or they must contribute eight hours to harvesting produce and farm service.

Every week, they offer different vegetables, fruits and herbs to pick from and as the summer goes along, their selection gets more extensive.

“It's a great program if you love fresh, local and organic vegetables,” farm manager Ashley Coerdt said. “There are a lot of people who are really into this right now; they come from all over the place to pick up their vegetables.”

Coerdt says they the program was started at Casey Farm about 20 years ago and then it was just a few people. Now their membership fluctuates yearly between 150 and 200 members.

The public can come to on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to buy produce even if they are not apart of the CSA program.
