BankRI Kicks Off Annual Holiday Giving Tree Program

BankRI's effort looks to help local families in need.

The following is a press release from BankRI.

With the December holidays quickly approaching, many Rhode Islanders continue to feel the strains of a sluggish economy that threatens to make it difficult for families to afford extras such as gifts for their children. In response, Bank Rhode Island announced today that it will team with local non-profit organizations on its 15th Annual Holiday Giving Tree Program.

The Holiday Giving Tree Program kicked off Monday, November 26 at all BankRI locations across the state (including North Kingstown), helping to provide Rhode Island children in need with gifts this holiday season.

In North Kingstown, the program will benefit Crossroads North Kingstown.

All 17 BankRI branches will display a Holiday Giving Tree; partnering with local non-profits who will provide each location with the wish lists of children they serve. Each child’s holiday wish will be placed on an ornament and hung on the Holiday Giving Tree. All BankRI customers and staff are encouraged to select an ornament representing a child in need and provide gifts that will help brighten their holiday. Members of the community may then return to their branch to place the gifts beneath the Holiday Giving Tree.

“BankRI is proud of the success of our Holiday Giving Tree Program over the years and the outpouring of generosity demonstrated by our customers and staff on behalf of those who are less fortunate,” said Mark J. Meiklejohn, President and CEO, BankRI. “We know that many of our neighbors continue to face financial challenges, so anything we can do to help ease this burden by providing gifts for their children will go a long way in making the holiday season brighter.”

The local non-profit organizations who will partner with BankRI include: Adoption Rhode Island, Aids Care Ocean State, Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick, Connecting for Children and Families, Crossroads North Kingstown, East Bay Community Action Program, Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center, Family Resources Community Action, House of Hope, Sstarbirth, Tri-Town Community Action, and Tri-Town Head Start.
