The "Rock Musical" has become a Broadway staple and the most versatile up and coming performers are tailoring their training accordingly.  In this high energy musical theater class, taught by local teaching artist Valerie Remillard Myette, students will practice and perform selections from some of Broadway's most successful Rock Musicals.  Students will participate in several ensemble numbers and have the option of performing a short solo or duet in a cabaret-style performance that will take place at a local venue on the last day of class.  Examples of Rock Musicals include (but are not limited to) The Wiz, Little Shop of Horrors, Jersey Boys, Rent, SpiderMan Turn Off the Dark, Pippin, and many others.

Additional theater classes that are still open for registration at Talent Factory are “Storybook Theater” for preschool children on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning September 9 at 9:30 AM and “Acting Out!” for ages 4-7 on Thursdays beginning September 12 at 4 PM.

“At it's very core, an actor's job is to tell a story,” Says Ms. Remillard Myette who teaches Storybook Theater and Acting Out!  “And young children are great at telling wildly dramatic stories!”

Storybook Theater will use popular children’s books to encourage young children to play and perform roles from their favorite stories.  Students will learn about pantomime, storytelling and collaboration in this perfect class for beginning performers.

In Acting Out!, students participate in a series of traditional and, at times, comedic theater games that are designed to encourage creative thinking, collaboration and self-trust.  “Acting Out! is one of my favorite classes to teach because it is low maintenance and high fun for both me and the kids.” according to Ms. Remillard Myette.  Students also learn introductory stage directions, create characters, and identify and play emotions.

Myette is a professional actress, singer and performing arts teacher who has worked for over fifteen years in the New York, Rhode Island and Southeastern New England area.  She graduated from Wheaton College in Norton, MA with a degree in Theater and English Dramatic Literature.  She also owns Experiments in Theater -- a local, family business that provides enrichment classes, workshops and online resources in the theater and performing arts.
