In a congratulatory letter that Airman Costello received from the Rhode Island National Guard, State Command Chief Master Sergeant Michael J. Brady says that Airman Costello continues to be “a positive role model for our fellow Airmen… and an outstanding representative of our proud and professional enlisted force”. Joseph Costello will be a candidate in the United States Air Force 2014 OAY competitions. Nominees are selected based on leadership, job performance, community involvement and personal achievements of the past year.

Costello works as the director of safety and training for the YMCA of Greater Providence. He is currently on active military leave, stationed in the Middle East serving on an Air Force flight crew. “We are extremely proud of Joe,” says Jim Berson, President and CEO, “for his continuous service to our country.
