JOSEPH COSTELLO NAMED OUTSTANDING AIRMAN OF THE YEAR

Providence, Rhode Island (Monday, January 27, 2014) - The Rhode Island Air National Guard has selected Airman Joseph P. Costello to the Airman category for the Outstanding Airman of the Year (OAY) program. Airman Costello’s accomplishments over the past year and continuous dedication and leadership has proven him to be a worthy representative of the state of Rhode Island Air National Guard and USAF 2014 OAY competitions. 

In a congratulatory letter that Airman Costello received from the Rhode Island National Guard, State Command Chief Master Sergeant Michael J. Brady says that Airman Costello continues to be “a positive role model for our fellow Airmen… and an outstanding representative of our proud and professional enlisted force”. Joseph Costello will be a candidate in the United States Air Force 2014 OAY competitions. Nominees are selected based on leadership, job performance, community involvement and personal achievements of the past year.

Costello works as the director of safety and training for the YMCA of Greater Providence. He is currently on active military leave, stationed in the Middle East serving on an Air Force flight crew. “We are extremely proud of Joe,” says Jim Berson, President and CEO, “for his continuous service to our country. I am honored to have him as part of our YMCA family.”

The 12 Outstanding Airman of the Year program awards the OAY Ribbon to chosen nominees to fill one of three categories; Airman, Non-commissioned Officer, and Senior Non-commissioned Officer. The 12 Outstanding Airmen will be honored at the Air Force Association’s annual convention in Washington, D.C.
