Souped on 'Super Natural Every Day' the Heidi Swanson Way

A great cookbook for people interested in natural food and vegetarian cooking!

Living on your own as a college student is fun and, like anyone on a budget, has its challenges...especially when you want to find creative and healthful meals to eat. I am extremely passionate about food; for me, it is an experience from start to end especially when I can find great resources to cook from. A recent trip down Church Street in Burlington, VT to the local bookstore did just that.

“Super Natural Every Day” by Heidi Swanson is chocked full of easy and fun ways to prepare natural and meatless meals. I learned about Heidi through her blog, “101 Cookbooks,” and as I continued to get updates I just had to purchase one of her cookbooks.  She prides herself on natural cooking, using ingredients such as rye flour, farro, barley and agave nectar.

Heidi is a vegetarian so her meal preparations are cost effective and with the use of filling options like tofu and beans I never miss the meat! I’ve tried 10 of her recipes and she hasn’t let me down yet. My favorite is her Black Sesame Otsu. I have always been a big fan of stir-fries and this one is mouth-watering! She uses soba noodles, tofu and veggies and creates a delicious sauce using black sesame paste that gives the meal that sweet yet salty taste.
