Criminal background checks for school volunteers: To assist teachers and other school employees to obtain the national criminal background checks required by Rhode Island General Law, Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin will provide the service at North Kingstown Police Department from 3 to 6 p.m. Individuals must bring positive proof of ID, such as a valid driver’s license, state-issued ID or passport, as well as a letter of conditional employment. Payment must be a check or money order only.  Checks should be made out to “BCI.” The cost for a national criminal background check is $35 and the cost for a state-only criminal background check is $5. The background check will be mailed to the individual.  For any questions, please call the Office of Attorney General at 401-274-4400 and ask for a fingerprint technician.

Healthcare information: On Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. you can learn how to find quality, affordable health insurance at the North Kingstown Senior Center for a presentation and question and answer session about HealthSource RI, Rhode Island’s health benefits exchange, a new one-stop marketplace for Rhode Islanders to find, compare and purchase affordable health insurance plans.

In case you missed it: The main story Monday was about potential buyers of Stonecroft at Wickford Village (a possible 7-unit development on Boston Neck Road) telling the Planning Commission they couldn’t make the project work including restoration of the historic farmhouse. It was a lively meeting.
