Candy-Book swap: If your household is suffering from candy aquisition overload, you might want to donate your Halloween candy to any Children’s Workshop locations, and receive a free children's book! All of the candy collected will be shipped to the troops serving overseas via Operation Gratitude. The Candy Collection will take place through Nov. 8 at all of our locations. There is a Children’s Workshop at 4094 Quaker Lane.

Jambalaya Dinner: The North Kingstown High School Sailing Team is again holding its popular fundraiser – Jambalaya Dinner, A Taste of New Orleans - Saturday, Nov. 2nd at the Wickford Yacht Club. Live Jazz Music along with Jambalaya and Southern-style desserts will be included in the evening (BYOB).  Tickets are $20 each (or $25 at the door if not sold out). There are two settings, 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Please contact any member of the sailing team for tickets or call 885-5852.

Slocum Grange Harvest Supper: On the menu, Slocum Grange’s famous baked ham and baked beans, cole slaw, beets, brown bread, coffee, tea or punch, and a slice of Slocum Grange's famous homemade pie. At 5:30 p.m. $12 for adults, $10 for children 5-10. Free for children 5 and under. For reservations, call Carol Perry, 294-2989.

Ocean State Soccer Giveback Saturday: OSS will be collecting canned goods through the new program Kick Out Hunger as well as old soccer uniforms and equipment for their other program Soccer RECYCLE. Those used uniforms and soccer equipment are sent to poor communities. Please bring items between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Ocean State Soccer fields, 650 Stony Lane. What’s It Worth, Wickford? Have your special item appraised by Daniel Buck Soules at Smith’s Castle this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Soules, who has been an auctioneer and appraiser for more than 30 years and has appeared since 1999 as an on-air appraiser on the PBS television program “Antiques Roadshow.” Soules, formerly of North Kingstown, specializes in 18th, 19th and early 20th century furniture, paintings, Shaker and silver items.
