Artist’s Reception at Coastal Living Gallery: The opening of an exhibit by painter Janet Alling takes place tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. Her recent series are close-up views of gardens, and could be interpreted as seen from the viewpoint of an approaching insect. At 83 Brown Street.
Book Are Wings by the Bay: Books Are Wings is a nonprofit organization dedicated improving literacy by putting free books into the hands of needy children. It’s holding a fundraiser tonight at a house on Pojac Point. Guest speakers are Providence Journal sports columnist Bill Reynolds and R.I.'s 2012 Elementary School Principal of the Year Susan Chin. Slocum Grange Breakfast: Slocum Grange will be having its first breakfast this morning from 7 to 10 a.m. at the hall on 96 Slocum Road. The menu will be pancakes, eggs, bacon or sausage, cheese omelet, home fries, johnny cakes, toast, coffee, tea, or cocoa and orange juice. $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 5 to 10, free for children 5 and under. Slocum Grange is collecting food for the North Kingstown Food Pantry. A box is located in the Grange Hall. Proceeds from the breakfast support Grange charities.
