The Heifetz on Tour Residency Program is a collaboration between the JAC and the Heifetz International Music Institute. Since 2013, the program has brought world-class musicians to Rhode Island for a week of educational outreach and performances.
While in Jamestown, Heifetz musicians provide free demonstrations and one-on-one collaborations with local school’s string and chorus programs. Musician’s also perform free special rehearsal performances for organizations serving adults with developmental disabilities and to the senior center. Evening musicales in various venues across Rhode Island further showcase the talents of these globally acclaimed young classical musicians, culminating in a final concert performance at the JAC.

Make art with artists Alicia Renadette and Yohanna Roa 

Free, drop-in, no experience necessary, all ages (children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult)

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Join Second Time Around exhibiting artists Alicia Renadette and Yohanna M Roa for a family-friendly drop-in art-making experience at the JAC. The artists will be creating collaborative artworks with you! 
Participate in both or one, stay for a few minutes, or all day.
The exhibition, Second Time Around, brings together contemporary works that reimagine past stories, memories, objects, materials, images, and artistic practices in ways that further their meaning for the present and future.
ABOUT THE WORK: 
In the vein of her sculptural works Regenerate and Memory Complex 2, Alicia Renadette will guide participants in the creation of a collaborative sculptural textile using discarded, recycled, found, and sometimes forgotten materials. The JAC will provide materials for this piece, but we encourage you to bring your own found and recycled materials to help create the collaborative sculpture (see below). 
Yohanna M Roa will be activating her textile mural Misshaping the Pattern by inviting participants to bring a photograph of an important woman in their lives. Yohanna will assist in transforming the images into simple line versions which individuals and families will embroider directly onto the participatory textile mural. 
Art made on May 18 will be on view at the JAC for the duration of the exhibition Second Time Around through June 15.
WHAT TO BRING: 
To participate in Misshaping the Pattern alongside Yohanna, please bring an image of an important woman in your life. The image will be sewn into the artwork so we suggest photocopies or copies (not originals). Materials will be provided for the sculptural work with Alicia. However, if you have any particularly beautiful bits of discarded, but clean, materials (left over party materials, broken toys, plastic lids, fabric swatches, unwanted clothing, found treasures) you are welcome to bring these to the JAC the day of to incorporate into the sculpture (please note you won’t get these objects back).

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
<a href="https://www.musicinafrica.net/directory/siya-charles" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Siya “Jazzmatic” Charles</a> is a tenor/ bass trombonist, composer and arranger based in New York City. An alumnus of the University of Cape Town’s South African College of Music, she has worked with the likes of the late Hugh Masekela, Jimmy Dludlu, Nduduzi Makhathini, American/Costa Rican trombonist Luis Bonilla, trombonist Steve Turre, bassist Endea Owens, saxophonist Chad “LB” Lefkowitz Brown, and Grammy Award-winning drummer Ulysses Owens Jr. Siya has won the jazz component of the Fine Music Radio Bursary, as well as the 1st Emirates Pursuit of Jazz Competition. She has performed in the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival, Grahamstown Jazz Festival, Arcevia Jazz Feast (Italy), Stockholm Jazz Festival (Sweden), Kongsberg Jazz Festival (Norway), Blue Note Jazz Club (USA), Birdland Jazz Club (USA), Dizzy’s Jazz Club (USA), Calabar Jazz Festival (Nigeria), Standard Bank Acacia Jazz Festival (Moçambique), Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland) and the Jazz is Back Festival (Croatia).
After many years of serving as a reliable sideman, she has established her newly formed musical collective titled: "The Siya Charles Sextet", featuring some of South Africa’s finest jazz musicians. The compositions and arrangements of The Siya Charles Sextet are inspired by classic jazz, South African jazz, the bebop and post-bop era, as well as Brazilian jazz.
Siya is currently completing her Masters in Music degree in jazz studies at the world- renowned Juilliard School. She is a FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar laureate, Jerome L. Greene Fellow and National Arts Council scholarship recipient.

Newport Live and the Jamestown Arts Center welcome Summer with The Suitcase Junket at the Jamestown Arts Center in Jamestown, Rhode Island. Tickets for The Suitcase Junket in our series have previously sold-out. Advance ticket purchase is recommended.
Beer from Ragged Island Brewing and wine from Greenvale Vineyards will be available for purchase along with soft drinks. Merchandise will also be available for purchase.

ABOUT THE MUSIC:
Matt Lorenz's vision, manifest in The Suitcase Junket, developed in the tension between the grand and the solitary. Grand in its imagery, sound, and staging. Solitary in its thrift and self-reliance. What instruments he requires, Lorenz builds from scratch and salvage. What parts five players would perform, he performs alone. The spectacle of his one-man set bears constant comparison to legends of showmanship, brilliance, madness, and invention.
While audiences are captivated by his solitary form and the show itself, Lorenz, who homesteads with rescue dogs and chickens in rural Western Massachusetts, is most serious about the songs. He has been building a catalog, writing a world into existence. Solitary on stage and on the road, his mind is crowded with characters, narratives, voices, imagery, sounds as wide and varied as mountain throat singers and roadhouse juke boxes, plus newsreels of the planet's destruction and salvage. With this 2020 release, The End is New, Lorenz’s grand vision for the song overrides the how of it.
"The things I value are under attack," Lorenz writes. "And writing songs and making art are the methods I have for responding. I have tried to use my observations and reflections of the world bent through my fun-house-mirror mind to show what I see; a planet stressed. ... We can do better."

Produced by the Wickford Art Association since 1962, we invite you to come and discover the Wickford Art Festival! Located at Wilson Park, the Wickford Art Festival carries on it’s long history and reputation for featuring some of the top fine artists from across the country, but also hosting many of the well known and beloved New England and local Rhode Island artists widely admired by art enthusiasts. From 9am-4pm meet 200 artists showcasing their fine art in a variety of mediums including: ceramics, wood, wearable and decorative fiber, furniture, fine jewelry, drawing, etching, glass, mixed media, painting (watercolors, oil, gouache, acrylic), photography, printmaking, pyrography, and sculptures. Stop by the Wickford Art Association information booth to purchase one of a kind festival apparel or enter to win a piece of art while supporting the scholarship raffle. Enjoy some of Rhode Island’s best food trucks or a famous Del’s Lemonade. Admission is always free and as an added bonus to fine art collectors, Rhode Island does not collect sales tax on fine art sales! Parking is available for a suggested $10 donation at Wilson Park, plus a complimentary shuttle provided by NK Rotary from Wickford Middle School &amp; First Church of Science. 
Historic Wickford just a ¼ mile walk from Wilson Park is set on beautiful Narragansett Bay and the village comes alive for this annual event. Make sure to stroll down and enjoy the beloved strawberry shortcakes on the lawn of First Baptist Church on Main Street! With beautiful views, gorgeous historic homes, dozens of quality shops and a variety of restaurants, artists and attendees come to experience this one of a kind festival year after year.
