North Kingstown’s roots can be traced back to 1637 when the state’s founder Roger Williams (recently banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony) established a trading post along what is now Post Road. Williams would remain in the area for eight years, penning groundbreaking writings such as “Experiments of Spiritual Life and Health.” In 1674, “Kings Towne” was founded by the colonial government and contained much of “Narragansett Country,” comprised of North Kingstown, South Kingstown, Exeter and Narragansett. The area became a one of the hot spots during King Phillips War the following year…

For those not wanting to venture down to the beaches in Narragansett and South Kingstown, North Kingstown has a few gems right in our own backyard. A few years back, the Quonset Development Corporation put some money into beautifying parts of the park, including fixing up the four beaches and creating a bike path. Blue Beach offers a beautiful view of the West Passage and Wickford’s …
Quonset Air Museum One of North Kingstown’s best kept secrets for family fun, the Quonset Air Museum hosts a bounty of aircrafts, ranging from World War II planes to more modern crafts … all within an original World War II hangar from Quonset Base. What sets the Quonset Air Museum apart is how hands-on it is. Aside from a handful of crafts, you can go up and literally touch the planes. In fact, you can even hop in a few of them while you’re there. (The museum even does cockpit days when visits can actually hop in the cockpit of select crafts.) Adding to the kid-friendly features, the museum …
