Holidays in the Village

Being  thankful: it takes a village!

I know there are a lot of cool places in the world. Heck, I've seen many of them. But, some of us are lucky to be able to live in a place that we know is extra special and Wickford happens to be one of those places.

There are many beautiful historic seaside towns along the coast but I happen to call this one home and the more time (and life) goes by, the more and more I appreciate this magical place and the extraordinary people that I live with.

Within the past week alone I've seen so much community support from "multiple" friends inviting their own friends and family over to shop in the village then go to their houses after for dinner or a holiday party in an effort to support the local village merchants. Or, coming together to support Beauty & the Bath's 16th annual Pajama & Book Drive "Party" and also a fundraiser for the local YMCA in which dozens of jewelry donations were dropped off, carefully tagged & displayed then presented at a private home with cocktails and appetizers for sale with all proceeds going to the Y to business events where we are consistently & consciously supporting each other.

We tend to hear about all the negative in the world, but it's hard to be anything but thankful when you are surrounded by such amazing people, love and support. We have a young community member's annual "Cereal Night" in which families come together to have a simple dinner of cereal then donate what they would have spent on dinner to the Food Pantry to the NK Chamber of Commerce's annual "Jingle Mingle" to the newly formed young professional group Twenty40 hosting it's "Festivus" party at the fantastic Pink Chair Consignments.

I know it's only the first week in December and Santa hasn't arrived yet but here in Wickford we are surrounded by gifts all year long. Wishing all of you a wonderful Holiday Season...

Thankfully Wickford Liquor Store is open late every day, because "...not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse would have some meaning after 6 PM". It's kind of hard to go shopping when most stores are closed.
