Woman Charged with Embezzling $198K From Local Marina

A 42-year-old office manager is charged with embezzling $198,000 from her employer.

A North Kingstown woman is facing computer fraud and embezzlement charges after allegedly stealing $198,000 over two years from her employer.

Maureen Rondeau, a 42-year-old office manager at Brewers Wickford Cove Marina in North Kingstown, was arrested Dec. 5 after a two-month-long investigation by the North Kingstown Police Department. Over a two-year period, Rondeau altered more than 75 checks (totaling $105,000), changing the intended payee to her name and cashed the checks. According to the NKPD, Rondeau also fraudulently transferred $93,000 to her personal account during the same time period to pay her credit card bills.

Rondeau was arraigned and released on $6,000 surety bail. She is scheduled to appear in Kent County District Court on Jan. 10, 2012.
