Wickford Welcomes Elle G Boutique

Wickford Village has a new boutique.

There's a new kid on the block in Wickford Village – Elle G.

Many may have stumbled upon the new boutique during this year's Festival of Lights' tree lighting, which coincidentally was opening day for Elle G's owner Lauren Greif. Though opening day saw a few "coming soon" signs on the racks as Greif waited for her inventory, the exposure during Wickford's fan-favorite holiday celebration was worth it, she said.

Now more than a month after her grand opening, Greif has packed her store with everything from clutches to necklaces to sassy dresses and jackets.  Though Elle G is located right next to Gossip Boutique, Greif feels the two shops complement and can work off of each other.

"We're two boutiques that cater to the female population, but we're completely different," said Greif.

Whereas Gossip carries bigger, more well-known brands like Free People, Greif said she sticks with the "hippier" and more "relaxed" styles of smaller brands. The style of her merchandise is also diverse – including a a white, lacey top to a flowy black jumpsuit to a denim vest with studs and tears.

Greif also wants to keep her stock affordable and no item is more than $100.

"I want someone to be able to come in here and unique outfit that they won't see anyone else wearing without breaking the bank," said Greif.

A native of Marblehead, MA and a 2010 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Greif never thought she'd settle in quaint Wickford. In fact, it wasn't until after she graduated from URI that she heard about Wickford Village. Greif said it had always been a dream to open her own boutique, but had been eyeing Newport for her venue.

"I searched around Newport and there is so much competition there and it just didn't feel right," said Greif.

Then, Greif discovered the little village by the sea when her boyfriend bought a house in Wickford. After exploring the streets of Wickford, Greif knew she had found her place.

"It's been great so far," she said. "I'm still feeling out the customer base here but the response has been pretty good so far."

Elle G is located at 14 Main Street in Wickford. For more information, call 401-294-9192 or visit their Facebook page.
