Town Hall Closed, Evacuation Recommended For Coastal Areas

Hurricane Sandy is causing more closures in North Kingstown.

Though state offices will be open for at least the first shift Monday, North Kingstown town hall will be closed Monday and Tuesday due to Hurricane Sandy. North Kingstown schools have already been cancelled Monday and Tuesday.

Additionally, the North Kingstown Senior Center (a.k.a. Beechwood Senior Center) is closed Monday and Tuesday.

In a little bit of good news, the deadline for tax bills (which would be due on Oct. 31) has been extended to Monday, Nov. 5.

Town officials are recommended those who live in coastal areas and abutting freshwater bodies to evacuate.

WHY does NK not have a shelter????? Historically they have ALWAYS used the middle schools. Again NK abandoned by the school administration and now are making our citizens at risk having to travel to SK or Chariho. SHAME,SHAME , SHAME on the School and TOWN ADMINISTRATION

Samantha,
Why is there no emergency shelter open in North Kingstown? In past years, Wickford Middle has served as our emergency center.

In the past WMS, NKHS and DMS have been used as shelters. With the "requests and recommendations" coming through the Code Red Alerts you would think someone would have taken action for the people in town who need to evacuate......
