I thought I nominated the Starbucks up near the Stop N Shop. I'm sticking with them because I like my coffee strong -- not some watery gruel. Updike's in fine but the other two are the pits.

Yeah, it's a nice strong brew, but again mass produced.

Totally true, it's the best. The beans are roasted right there, it's carefully brewed and blended by Mark (the owner) so you know you're getting a quality product.

Allie's, great donuts but cheap diner coffee, the kind of stuff you get from Sisco.

Updikes, no contest. Not juist the best coffee in NK, the best coffee, period. Mark and Steffie source single-origin beans from around the globe and roast them right there in the shop. None of the other shops in this survey can say the same. We always have a pound or two on hand and never brew anything else at home. I also ship it to my sister in Colorado on occasion. When my husband was in Iraq for a year, the Additons were kind enough to kind enough to donate coffee to his care packages.

Updike's for all the reasons that BG states above. Mark (the owner) is a master roaster; he is an artist at his craft and the proof is in the rich, luxurious flavor of UN coffee. The owners really care about the source of their coffee, too, and make a point to know the farmers across the world from whom they procure their coffee beans. It's fair trade, and even more than that it's a cross-cultural experience that they bring to their customers. We are incredibly lucky to have an Updike's in NK.

No one even comes close to Updike's. Whether you like dark roast, light roast or even tea or chai they have it and do it right. Mark really knows his coffee roasting and I love it when he gets something new in and lets the regulars try it. It's not just a place for great coffe, it's like the Cheers Bar of North Kingstown to any of us who become a regular. Really gives you that family vibe.

The only answer is Updikes Coffee Roasters. If you need me to explain further, you haven't tried their coffee. Or had a sledding accident as a youth. And don't get me started on this Alex and Ani...run of the Mills Coffee with a dangly bracelet and a rock-candy-crystal-thing. Lame. But, I like those Wilson boys and their fine duds.

And I know what is good and real.

Because I'm Jonny from NK. Jonny. With a silent 'H'. An invisible 'H'.

Jonny. Out.
