Providence Teacher Pleads Not Guilty to Assaulting NK Officers

A teacher accused of assaulting two NK officers has pleaded not guilty.

 

 

A Providence teacher accused of assaulting two North Kingstown police officers has pleaded not guilty in District Court, according to the Providence Journal.

Jane E. O'Connell, 49, of Charlestown was at Seven Moons in North Kingstown when the allegedly incident occurred. According to police reports, police arrived after O'Connell's friend fell of a bar stool and injured herself. While trying to help the woman, O'Connell allegedly began yelling at police and created a scene, screaming profanities inside the restaurant. During her arrest, she reportedly assaulted two officers – one of which sustained a concussion during the incident.

O'Connell pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty.

Providence schools have put her on administrative leave. Her pretrial conference is set for March 19.
