Pet of the Week: Cassie
Meet Cassie – a pure breed black lab looking for her forever home.
My name is Cassie and I am a three-year-old (by the way “beautiful”) pure breed black Lab.
Currently I live at the North Kingstown Animal Shelter and like many shelter dogs there is a reason for it.
Unfortunately my new friends at the shelter don’t know exactly what happened to me over the last few years and being the dog I am I haven’t told them but showed them.
I made a few bad choices (didn’t we all?) and tried to get my way by snapping at people. I guess I never understood what’s going to happen if the “hand” comes up to me. Is it going to pull me, drag me, hit me or pet me? Can I trust people? Why do they call me just to lock me up all day? Wouldn’t you have trust issues?
Fortunately my new friends decided not to put me to sleep even though my old Dad decided to.
Since February 2012 I am working with a positive dog trainer and I came a long way! After many, many treats and hours of training I now feel comfortable around people and their reactions. My friends at the shelter showed me that humans ARE good! I loved learning how to heel, sit, down, wait, leave it, watch me and drop my toys. (Resource guarding was one of my biggest issues.)
Life at the shelter is ok. They walk me, play with me and even got me a pool. I have tons of toys and great grain free food for my sensitive stomach but there is still something missing. I don’t like being alone all night in my kennel. All I want is a new forever home with someone who just…loves me!
I do need a little more training and it might take a while before I feel comfortable, but if you are up to it, I am! To make it easier for you, I asked my dog trainer if she can visit us once a week to “translate” and she said she’ll be there all the way. For free – no matter how long it takes!
You really have to be committed to me and work with me every day! I promise you I will be the love of your life and as it is with all the “good girls." (They are hard to get.)
Please come down to the shelter to meet me! It’s been 6 months and I really need a forever home. For information call the shelter at 295-5579 or email greatpets@msn.com

I thought my black lab "Cassie" that I had for 13 years had come back to life when I saw her photo. My email address is no joke. I created this email on her behave after she died many years ago. I raised her from a pup and she was my soul mate! I believe in fate (I'm shaking as I write this for it is toooo uncanny) and I don't know what to make of this. I was trying to check my account on aol and this story came up. There is no area code with your phone number so I don't know where to call. My
number is 864/366/0510. I would love to talk to someone about Cassie, maybe she has found her home.
