Patching Out

North Kingstown Patch Editor Samantha Turner's final day as editor for the site.

Camera slung over my shoulder and with my notepad in hand, I strode across the field at Ryan Park. Parents were gathered at the fences around the fields, cheering on the teams of North Kingstown's flag football league.

"Hi, I'm Samantha Turner with North Kingstown Patch," I joyfully said to two mothers as I stretched out my hand.

"North Kingstown Match? Match.com? Oh, I don't want that. I'm married," one woman said to me, scowling as she curtly turned away from me.

That was Oct. 8, 2010: the launch day of North Kingstown Patch, my first day as an editor.

And today, May 8, 2013, is my last day as the editor of North Kingstown Patch.

I will be staying with Patch and in Rhode Island, but taking on a new role as Community Editor for Rhode Island Patch. Though I’m excited for this new opportunity (and to no longer have to cover three-hour-long municipal meetings), it’s hard to part with NK Patch (i.e. my digital child). I started NK Patch from the ground up and have been the only editor at the helm since its launch date back in 2010.

It’s crazy to look back to that gorgeous fall day when NK Patch went live and hardly anyone (aside from my family and friends) knew what Patch was. Now, people tell me on a daily basis that they can’t live without NK Patch.

I just wanted to thank everyone who helped make North Kingstown Patch what it is today and who helped me along the way. To those who have sent me news tips, uploaded photos, commented and cheered on our community, and have used the site for what it was meant to be (a gathering place for us all), thank you!

Effective today, Editor Elizabeth McNamara will be taking over the news duties for North Kingstown Patch. Elizabeth has been the editor of East Greenwich Patch for a couple of years now and has done a remarkable job. I am confident she will give the same care and attention to North Kingstown and its readers. Any news- or editorial-related inquiries can be sent to her at elizabeth.mcnamara@patch.com.

For questions and information regarding blogging, uploading, feedback, business directories/listings, etc., continue to forward those on to me. (Or if you want to continue to send me funny articles and Star Wars-related pieces, I will always welcome those emails as well!)
