NK's Teacher of the Year: Toni-Annette Silveira

Music teacher Toni Silveira has been named this year's teacher of the year in North Kingstown.

 

Longtime North Kingstown High School music teacher and band director Toni-Annette Silveira has been named North Kingstown's 2012 Teacher of the Year.

Silveira has been at NKHS for 17 years, teaching five music classes to more than 200 NKHS students each year. She also leads the high school's award-winning symphonic band and jazz band – programs that have consistently produced All-State and Southern New England Honors Band recipients. Additionally, she conducts for the All-State Jazz program.

This past year, Silveira led both bands to their sweep of the NYC Heritage Music Festival – scoring six awards. Four of her students performed on the main stage at the Newport Jazz Festival this summer.

Toni you were wonderful to work with, and you and the High School band did a great job at the opening of the Wickford Junction Commuter Rail Station.
