NK Police Log: Trio Caught Stealing From Salvage Yard

DUI Suspect Sideswiped Car Prior to Arrest.

John R. Brouillard, 64, of 612 Knotty Oak Road in Coventry, was arrested Aug. 7 at 12:15 p.m. on charges of driving under the influence.

Brouillard allegedly sideswiped another vehicle while driving on Ten Rod Road. When police arrived, he was rummaging through papers and had trouble standing, according to his arresting officer. According to reports, Brouillard had “extremely” bloodshot and water eyes and slurred speech, but did not smell of alcohol. Brouillard allegedly denied drinking any alcohol (telling officers he had not had a drink in 14 years) and the only medication he took that day was his blood pressure and cholesterol medication. After allegedly failing his field sobriety test, he was brought to Kent County Hospital for treatment.

Trio Tries to Steal Car Parts From Salvage Yard

Ryan Bruskie, 25, and Terry Lee Bruskie, 25, both of 561 Lafayette Road in North Kingstown, and a third man were arrested Aug. 7 at 8:49 p.m. on charges of willfull trespass, attempted larceny and conspiracy. Terry Bruskie also had two warrants (one from Superior Court and another from Fourth District Court) out for his arrest.

According to police, the trio was caught attempted to steal car parts from on Oak Hill Road. Ryan Bruskie was found curled up next to a car while Terry was found hiding beneath another car, according to reports.

A Bad Thing to 'Forget'

Matthew George Young, 27, of 4 State St., Apt. M in North Kingstown, was arrested Aug. 9 at 1 a.m. following a bench warrant for his arrest. His passenger — James M. Melton, 28, of Krzak Road Apt. D22 in North Kingstown — was also arrested a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Police found that Young’s license was suspended after a traffic stop on Post Road and placed him under arrest. According to reports, police offered his passenger, Melton, a ride home to his residence which he accepted. Officers told Melton they would need to pat him down for weapons and illegal contraband prior to his entering the police cruiser. During the patdown, police allegedly found a pocket knife, a glass smoking pipe and a bag of marijuana. Melton reportedly told officers he “forgot" he had put the items in his pockets. Melton faces a felony possession charge, as he has already been convicted of marijuana possession twice before.

EG, NK Police Investigating String of Thefts From Cars

According to North Kingstown police, multiple cars were stolen from on Aug. 9 around the same time. The first reported case was at the , where the suspect allegedly smashed in a window to a Camry and stole a purse. A little later that afternoon, another car parked at the Chafee Nature Preserve (Rome Point) was hit. The rear window of that car had also been smashed and the suspect had made away with beach towels and backpack. An hour later, East Greenwich police reported another larceny in their town. The suspect’s vehicle is reportedly gold colored and occupied by a black male and a black female.

Other Arrests...

Michelle Anne Denton, 31, of 10 Mellbridge Road, Apt. 170 in South Kingstown, was arrested Aug. 6 at 9:45 a.m. on charges of driving with a suspended license. Police discovered the suspension after pulling Denton over for speeding: according to reports, she was travelling 68 mph in a 25 mph zone. Since Denton’s daughter was in the car at the time, DCYF was notified of her reckless driving, according to police.
