NK Police Log: Alleged Drunk Driver Refuses to Pull Over

The following information was supplied by the North Kingstown Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Alleged Drunk Driver Leads Police From EG to Home in NK

Colleen Martha Littlefield, 53, of 61 Charles St. in North Kingstown, was arrested Feb. 3 at 12:46 a.m. on charges of drunken driving and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

East Greenwich police followed Littlefield after she allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and was clocked at 83 mph in a 55 mph zone in East Greenwich. According to EG officers, Littlefield continued driving all the way to her house in North Kingstown even though the police had their emergency lights on. North Kingstown police met with their East Greenwich counterparts at Littlefield’s residence, where she was uncooperative with officers and appeared to be under the influence.

When officers began to place her under arrest, Littlefield asked for officers to bring a lieutenant (who she requested by name) to her house. When police told Littlefield that he was off-duty, she allegedly stated she was “going to call him.”

At headquarters, Littlefield refused to submit to a breathalyzer test. While signing her citations and documents, Littlefield allegedly wrote “under duress” every time she signed her name.

She is scheduled to appear in Third District Court on Feb. 21.

Alleged Drunk Driver Clocked at 93 MPH in 50 MPH Zone

Anthony W. Coscia, 24, of 31 Grand Isle Drive Apt. 521 in South Kingstown, was arrested Feb. 10 at 2:21 a.m. on charges of drunken driving.

According to reports, police pulled over Coscia after initially clocking him at 93 mph in a 50 mph zone on Route 4 as well as swerving in and out of his lane. Coscia allegedly told police he was speeding because he was tired and wanted to get home. When an officer inquired about his drinking that night, Coscia allegedly stated he had one beer with a college friend at a bar in Providence – which he could not identify. After saying he was “fine” several times, Coscia allegedly told officers he had “a couple, two or three beers.”

After he failed his field sobriety test, Coscia’s blood alcohol content measured at .107 percent in a preliminary breath test. On the ride to police headquarters, Coscia allegedly continued to ask police to let him drive home because he didn’t feel drunk. At the North Kingstown Police Department, Coscia’s blood alcohol tested at .098 percent and .103 percent in consecutive tests.

He is scheduled to appear in Third District Court on Feb. 28.

Providence Man Charged With Driving Without License

Guillermo Ranz, 34, of Providence, was arrested Feb. 10 at 6:27 a.m. on charges of driving without a license.

Police pulled Ranz over after he allegedly drove through a stop sign. According to police, Ranz told officers that he didn’t have a driver’s license in the U.S. and identified himself using a Mexican driver’s license, which expired in 2002. Ranz allegedly told police he has lived in the country for 10 years illegally.

North Kingstown police sent an immigration alien query to Immigration and Customs Enforcement., who later informed them that Ranz did have legal standing in the U.S.
