I guess if you want a candidate that has Charlie Stamm's endorsement (and whom Stamm claims has a "charming sense of modesty"...???????) than Cleaveland is your guy. If you want our town to have any chance at a stable financial future, run away from the incumbents..and any of the candidates they are endorsing like your life depends upon it.......

Confusing statements regarding the topics. ex: "Sewers are a big step in attracting quality businesses on 1A." The current sewer project is on Route 1 (Post Rd.) while Route 1A is Boston Neck Rd. Are sewers going in on 1A is Mr. Cleaveland confused?
He talks to police officer about the fire fighter contract? It is nice the police can enjoy 3 days off with thier family while that has been taken away from the firefighters by the TC and TM. Does Mr. Cleaveland support at least 3 days off for the Firefighters?

And don't let him fool you on the 2/102 development. If you elect him--and heaven forbid--any of the other republicans...they will vote as a block to support their pal Mark Hawkins project.

Cleaveland (Ehrhardt/Stamm jr) is confused. But I will help interpret for us:

"and work to bring new life to the 1A corridor"
he hasnt a CLUE what NK is all about, doesnt even know the roads

"Helping the School Committee with business issues"
he means he is in the tank with the anti-sc council. and ignores STATE STATUTE that we elect a SCHOOL COMMITTEE to conduct SCHOOL business. the people have every opportunity to elect a school committee of their choosing. cleveland disrespects this separation

"project that anyone would be proud to support."
what he really means is 'i am in the hawkins tank'. since he hasnt a CLUE about north post rd, expect a ghost town there while the rural south is built out. but ONLY by his nkgop developer buddies

"From what I have learned, all regular permitting and zoning procedures were followed in the building the wind turbine"
this guy is in the dolan/hueston tank. the dirty setup-from-the-start that gave us the wind turbine is their doing and he is cut from that same cloth.

Brent Cleaveland is not the kind of guy who normally draws these kinds of personal attacks. Interesting to note, he is also not the kind of guy who makes them, either. He is a smart, nice guy who knows North Kingstown because he has lived here for years and knows its potential.
I have known Brent for years. He's quite a guy. The Brent that I know and the one you will know if you elect him to the Town Council is a guy who is open to others' opinions (and welcomes them); is passionate about his beliefs while respecting the beliefs of others; believes a good business environment is the tide that lifts all boats; is a bipartisan kind of guy who knows how to sit down and work things out; has been a successful businessman but also knows the ups and downs that all businesses go through at one time or another; and, he's the kind of guy you'd like to have a second cup of coffee with. He and I sometimes disagree. He listens and is open to new approaches. Brent has that rare quality of believing you can disagree without being disagreeable. That's refreshing. Spend a few minutes with Brent and you will discover he is smart, articulate and wants the best for this town. He'll have my vote on Tuesday and if you are as smart as he is...you'll vote for him, too.

Dave , my critique (if thats what you are speaking of) is not a personal attack, its reading between the lines of his answers and represents the opinion that Cleaveland is cut from the same cloth as the NKGOP defenders of Halley, the purveyors of perverted windmill approvals, the constant hiring of lawyers against other NK interests such as that go-nowhere legal assault on the schools and now the battle with the firefighters. And it doesn't help that he fails to mention the obvious better comprehensive plan of re-purposing the decimated already-commercial northern post rd, but supports plundering the pristine south which happens to be by his running mate Hawkins. His remarks on the hideous turbine (that we need to move on and live with it) speak for themselves. The NK I envision has leaders who RESOLUTELY support de-qualifying and relocating that turbine should the health and safety situation present that opportunity, maintaining open spaces to the south, and re-purposing all the commercial asphalt space along the existing post rd corridor. As well as resolving the firefighte staffing in a less hostile way that doesnt pad crony lawyers checking account. Cleaveland in my opinion is a above-them-all NKGOP'er who will give us more of the wrong direction.

Mr. Layman, I was not attacking Mr. Cleaveland either, just questioning some of the troubling comments made by someone who is looking to be a leader of the town. Any tourist knows the difference between Route 1 and 1A. He needs to take a ride up north (outside of Wickford) to see the sewer construction at night. Maybe take a ride to see the windmill. Talk to a fireman about the legal battle, not just get the police take on it. Very disappointed but not surprised. Plenty of other choices this year.

I would like to ask a question of Mr Cleveland. Based on the endorsement of Dave Laymen above, who the community holds in high regard, I would gather that Mr, Cleveland has some very solid merit.. So here is my question. IMO it is unconscionable that the NKGOP endorsed Mark Hawkins as a candidate for TC. How can Cleveland have any sense of comfort running on the same team? Will Cleveland come out before the election and state that he does not agree with Hawkin's self serving play for a seat on TC? Will he state publicly that he sees a huge potential conflict of interest problem with Hawkins? Unless the community hears loud and clear from Cleveland that he fully disassociates himself with Hawkins now, and in the future, I'm afraid there is no way that most of the NK community could ever begin to even consider supporting Mr Cleveland. In this case, unfortunately for Mr. Cleveland, the company you chose to keep has very significant consequences.

Sonitrol Security?

As I was watching tv the other night a political ad popped up on the screen. It was an ad for the NK republican "team" complete with smiling faces of the TC & SC candidates.

The first thought that came to me was an image from the movie It's a Wonderful Life. I was looking at the faces of Potterville. It was the collective smiling face of Mr. Potter as he "saved" you from yourself while at the same time taking your home and your very existence. Padding his own pockets with land deals, forcing good people, through no fault of their own, to take 50 cents on the dollar for their hard earned life.

I could not get rid of the feeling that NK is becoming Potterville. We are being dictated to by a TC that does not listen to us. We all need to be George Bailey on Nov. 6th and say no to Mr. Potter.
