Those looking for an excuse to wear their pajamas out in public had a glowing opportunity Wednesday night as Wickford's Beauty & the Bath held its 15th Annual Pajama Party and Book Drive.

With the donation of a new pair of children's pajamas or book, the pajama-clad crowd braved the rainy conditions (eerily similar to last year's event) to feast on treats courtesy of Tavern by the Sea and Narragansett Olive Oil Company and received goat milk hand treatments from the folks at Reynolds Barn.

The hundreds of donated pajamas and books will benefit the Pajama Program, a non-profit that gives pajamas and books to local children in need.

"People always think about donating coats and mittens during the holidays, but they don't think about pajamas," said Lori Lyons, owner of Beauty & the Bath. "The ritual of having a new pair of pajamas ad a book to read at night is so important."

Lyons has held the event since 1997, when she took over as owner of the beauty shop.

Party-goers smelled candles, tried out hand lotions and loaded up on Christmas gifts at the beauty store as they awaited the night's raffle, with prizes donated by businesses including JW Graham, The Wickford Collection, Different Drummer, Richard's Pub and more. Customers loaded up on the store's merchandise as they enjoyed a 20 percent discount on purchases during the party.

Beauty & The Bath will be accepting donations for the organization until Dec. 19.
