Letter: McKendall Pledges Term Limits

If elected, Tina McKendall promises to serve no more than three terms in the State Senate.

To the editor,

The evolution of the career politician has been a problem in state politics for several decades.  As local congressmen and woman make longterm connections, it becomes more difficult for the representative of a specific district to say “No!”

How would it be possible to say, “That’s really not a good investment for a cash strapped state,” to the people whose votes you need two years later? If I’m elected to the State Senate this year, I pledge to remain in the Assembly no longer than three terms.  That’s six years.  If I can’t help reduce the state debt and ease the oppressive tax burden on everyone in that amount of time, then it will be time for someone else to give it a shot.

Jim Sheehan has been in the State Senate for twelve years.  That’s six terms.  Our economic situation has not changed since he has been in office.  Clearly it’s time for someone else.  I’m Tina McKendall and I can get this done.  Vote for me on November 6th.

Tina McKendall could not get the job done in ten terms! As a Tea Party gal, she would have trouble getting members of her own Republican Party to side with her, let alone the Democrats who will be in the majority for a long time to come. Oh yes, if Tina and Sen. Hodgson get elected, NK and Narr get NOTHING passed through the Senate!

I'm tired of the staus quo at the Staehouse and the people that support it--usually because it profits them. Remember, as you go to the polls, the Studio 38 debacle and the arrogance of the current politicians that gamble badly with your tax dollars--and always insist they'll do it better next time. Their wrong-headed policies have made us dead last in about every measure except corruption. Time for a change....

It seems we have forgotten that the Chair of the entity that made that decision is already out of office (Gov. Carcieri). There's your primary culprit...

Political opportunist carpetbagger Teaparty Tina should fact-check her ridiculous pants on fire statement before inserting foot in mouth. Her comment, "Our economic situation has not changed since he has been in office" is an insult to readers when she hasn't even lived in NK for the terms Sen Sheehan has served. His record shows his many accomplishments in office.
Her 3 term commitment must be her last ditch attempt to win a RI seat.If she did due diligence she'd know that government change is a slow process. It takes time. She sees herself making changes for the corporate-business wealthy in 3 terms or less, saying,I can get things done. Must be those rose colored Rep glasses! Her claim of reducing the debt w/business deregulation isn't a middle class goal. It's a business/corporate goal. If you go back to DanYorke's 9/27/2012 interview, Teaparty Tina, stated she believed in transparency gov. but she wants to get rid business regs- can’t have it both ways. And she believes in lowering corporate taxes, another goal for the rich-not for middle class. She believes in less gov just like Romney. He'd eliminate FEMA as Pres & she's a Romney man, so please remember that when you vote next Tuesday recovering from the hurricane. Instead of writing a ridiculous letter saying in 3terms she will make a change to reduce the debt which is a fantasy goal, she should have checked out the safety status of the constituents she wants to serve from the hurricane like Sen Sheehan did.

Jason - I was just telling my husband the same thing the other night! I am telling all of my friends and neighbors that a vote for McKendll is vote AGAINST North Kingstown and Narragansett! If these two towns don't want to be on the outside looking in, they'd better seriously consider the consequences of voting in a freshman in the minority party. Sen. Hodgson's record of ZERO last year just proves that he is completely unwilling to work with the majority party (which by the way, like it or not, will be in power for the next decade at least). Compromise is not in his vocabulary nor is it in Ms. McKendall's. Her arrogance this campaign has proved that she is a "my way or the highway" tea partier and everyone knows that the Tea Party wouldn't know common ground if they were standing on it! So, where does that leave NK and Narragansett in a Dawson/McKendall senate? Out in the cold watching legislation after legislation get "held for further study!"
Whether you agree with Sen. Sheehan on everything he's supported or not, at least admit that he is in a position to work with the majority party to get things passed in the Senate and has proved that time and time again. Don't talk about balance in the general assembly while deliberately giving up that balance in your own town!
Sen. Sheehan has my vote because he knows the art of compromise and in politics, if you don't have that, you don't have much chance of success.

This McKendall seems to be filled with perpetual naive condescension. A week before the election she tells us she won't serve more than six years? Are we sure that her real business isn't manufacturing fruitcakes in Massachusetts? Expertise in fruitcake manufacturing does not equate with mastering the byways of civic and political life. Indeed, it may equate with destroying anything civic and political she comes in contact with...I hereby pledge that if she gives me her job as an executive in the world of fruitcake creation, which,I have no real experience with and know nothing about, I will not stay in that position for more than 6 years--unless, of course, I destroy all the fruitcakes and leave the fruitcake manufacturing firm bankrupt, broken and beyond repair before that.

I dont like this bird anymore than any other of the NKGOP ilk. "I’m Tina McKendall and I can get this done." HUH? Wow. I personally cant stand Jimmy Sheehan, but give me a CREDIBLE alternative please, because he does get some things done.
