Droves of spaghetti-loving locals came out Tuesday night to support the North Kingstown Food Pantry – and feast on a delicious spaghetti dinner, of course. 

It's the second food pantry fundraiser for Tim and Jamie Sharp of Beach Rose Cafe who put on 4Hours 4Hunger in October 2010 – a cocktail party of sorts that featured raffle items from Wickford merchants. Just like 4Hours 4 Hunger, the idea for the spaghetti dinner began while Beach Rose Cafe regulars enjoyed their morning joe at the cafe.

The Sharps, North Kingstown Harbormaster Ed Hughes, Arthur Hardman and Rev. Patrick Greene of St. Paul's began discussing the event back in November. Coordinating with food pantry director Bonnie Smith, who also is a Sunday school teacher at St. Paul's, the group decided to host the event during an unexpectedly needy time for the pantry – February vacation.

"School vacations are really hard for these families in need," said Tim Sharp. "It's more meals that the parents are responsible for."

Held at St. Paul's Parish Hall, Tuesday night's event brought in more than $1,000 for the food pantry. Half of the night's food – spaghetti, salads and bread – was donated by Beach Rose's food supplier while the other half was donated by St. Paul's and Beach Rose.

For those who missed out on Tuesday's spaghetti soiree, the event's organizers plan to host another over the summer – another needy time for the pantry.
